Jetty Road Safe After Tornado hits Jamboree

The members of the popular country music band Jetty Road have been confirmed as safe and well after the main stage at the Big Valley Jamboree in Canada was destroyed by a violent storm at the weekend.

Waiting to go on stage following American Billy Currington, the band noticed the storm clouds and retreated from the side of the stage, which minutes later, crashed down at around 6p.m on Saturday evening.

One of the two lead singers, Paula Bowman, remarked, “We were sitting side of main stage watching Billy doing his set when we noticed the storm clouds approaching. We moved off stage and ran to a small tent back stage. Our drummer and bass player were sitting in a van while it was pummelled with hail and wind.”

“The storm hit so quickly that nobody had time to get to shelter,” added twin Lee. “There was debris flying everywhere. It is so hard to describe.”

15000 people were in attendance at the concert when the storm hit, which killed one person, critically injured four and injured another thirty-six.

Jetty Road picked up the gig at the Big Valley Jamboree Main Stage, an opening act for Glen Campbell, after their scheduled act were unable to perform. Their impressive minor performance days earlier saw organisers ask them to fill in.

Currently, Jetty Road are touring Canada and then will be hitting America to perform with country music legends Brooks & Dunn. The band’s latest release Million Miles is number one on the Country Tracks Top 30 chart.

Jetty Road Walk!

Australian country band Jetty Road began from humble beginnings, but look certain to be cemented on the international country music scene after being immortalised on the Canadian Merritt Walk of Stars.

Only the second Aussie act to be honoured on the Walk, Keith Urban being the predecessor, the Melbourne-based band have been touring internationally following home-grown success. Gracing the same stage as country superstars Emerson Drive, Doc Walker, Johnny Reid and Kenny Chesney after securing a spot at the Merritt Mountain Country Music Festival, Jetty Road has a star along the walk, as do Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, the Dixie Chicks, Brooks and Dunn and more.

Jetty Road-er Simon Ross said that it was an honour to be apart of the walk. “We were really honoured to be asked [to] join some of the greatest country music artists at the festival, but to be asked to [be a] part of the Walk of Stars was a great buzz.”

Jetty Road will soon join country veterans Brooks & Dunn on stage in the US, and then heading home.

Saddle Up!

September 12 is getting closer – that means the final of the Saddle Junior Country Music Competition is just around the corner!

With just over a month until the finalists compete for the title, including a performance at the Golden Saddles, $1000 cash and the opportunity to produce a demo under the tutelage of Brad Bergen, heats four and five resumed at the heart of country music, Tamworth, and nearby Casino earlier this month.

Letitica Armstrong took out the heat at Casino RSM, with Cameron Cusack, a 2009 Camerata Country Music College student, taking out the heat in Tamworth. Cusack was judged by country music sensation Victoria Baillie and Luke O’Shea, plus Mr. Matt Frost, who won the Golden Saddle People’s Choice Award in 2008.

Rooty Hill RSL looks the place to be, come September 12!!

Adam & Jade Still On The Floor!!

Country crooner Adam Brand is still in the running to become the series nine champion of Dancing With The Stars, after passing through elimination last night. Brand grabbed fellow contestant Lincoln Lewis’ horseshoe for luck as he stood on the steps, but the audience voted him and partner Jade Hatcher through to the next round.

Despite a low score from the judges last night, we think Brandy did pretty well. So let’s keep him in the competition by texting ‘ADAM’ to 191777 or ring 1902 55 77 11.

And of course, you can show Adam your support by tuning in next Sunday, on Channel Seven, at 6:30p.m to see him take on either the Argentine Tango or the Samba!

Nashville-based Australian country superstar Keith Urban is occupying the top two spots in the ARIA Top 20 Australian Country Albums charts this week. With his latest offering Defying Gravity and his Greatest Hits collection 18 Kids comandeering the charts, the country crooner’s popularity looks set as he prepares to hit Australian shores later this year. Defying Gravity is currently certified as Gold, with 18 Kids Platinum. Troy Cassar-Daley’s I Love This Place is sitting at number three on the charts, followed by the long-living, multi-award winning album Rattlin’ Bones by duo Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson. Slim Dusty’s The Very Best of Slim Dusty rounds up the top five, followed by Lee Kernaghan with Big Ones Biggest Hits , the now-dancing Adam Brand with Hell of a Ride and the new album from Harmony James, Tailwind , which debuted at number eight! John Williamson and Jayne Denham make up the rest of the top ten!

On the corresponding ARIA Chart, the Top 20 Country Albums (International), country sweetheart Taylor Swift is still at number one with her Platinum-selling album Fearless . Urban’s Defying Gravity follows, as does a new anthological inclusion, Double Cream; Cream of Country . The album features CMA winners with their some of their most popular songs, such as Brooks and Dunn with Red Dirt Road , Kellie Pickler with Red High Heels , Carrie Underwood with Jesus, Take The Wheel and Tim McGraw with Just To See You Smile . Brad Paisley’s American Saturday Night sits at number four, and Urban’s Greatest Hits rounds up the top five.

And lastly, the CMC Top 30 Requests Chart has seen local artist Carmen Fraser crack into the Top 30 with her debut 32 Days . Aussie favourite Victoria Baillie is sitting at twenty-eight with Make Me and the Sunny Cowgirls are one in front with The Grog Monster . Up the other end of the chart, Steve Forde is sitting at number one with Guns and Guitars . Sideways by Arizona boy Dierks Bentley and You Belong With Me by Swift are the only American singers in the top five, with Urban and Kiss A Girl and Adam Brand’s Blue Sky Cathedral rounding the top five up.

Amber Releases New Track!

APRA Nominee Amber Lawrence is preparing to launch her new album, “When It All Comes Out” on August 28th, 2009. And what a great start, with the releases of the lead-off track, “Don’t Do Lonely Well”. Displaying those trademark vocals and the sense of contemporary country music, the single is ‘a modern love story about ringing someone too much’, says Amber.

The lyrics are no doubt some that those girls pining over whether they should call him or shouldn’t would feel completely at home with, and are comical due to their honest nature.

‘Don’t Do Lonely Well’ has some shoes to fill; after all, Amber’s previous singles hit the track with a bang as they worked their magic in elevating Amber’s name into the world of Australian Country Music.

It is Play Something Country’s prediction, however, that ‘Don’t Do Lonely Well’ sets to equal the level of ‘Good Girls’, ‘Gonna Fly’ and ‘Things That Bring Me Down’. And if this track is a sample of what the album will present, ‘When It All Comes Out’ looks set to add to an unmissable CD collection.

Eric’s Carolina

Eric Church, the country singer who entered the charts back in 2006 with ‘How ‘Bout You’ and the harmonica-infused ‘Two Pink Lines’, has announced the release of his seventh single, ‘Carolina’. ‘Carolina’ is the title track from Eric’s second studio album, and follows the Top 20 lead-off single, ‘Love Your Love The Most’.

A homage to the town he grew up in, ‘Carolina’ is relatively different to what Church has generally done. There is a deep bass line that echoes throughout the duration of the single, and there are minimal back-up vocals. The irregular drum beat in the pre-chorus bridge teamed with the simplicity of the lyrics seems to be a new style for Church that absolutely works for him. The bridge toward the end of the song, where the backing vocals are introduced and the electric guitars begin their riffs, is probably the best I’ve ever heard in a country song and its’ individualism will definitely work in Church’s favour.

All in all, ‘Carolina’ looks set to be another top 20 for Church in America. The title track is quite unique and a pleasant cross between old and new country.

Keith Urban – “Only You Can Love Me This Way”

Australia’s favourite country export, Nashville-based superstar Keith Urban has announced the release of his third single from his chart-topping “Defying Gravity” studio album, “Only You Can Love Me This Way.”

The track, which debuted at #38 on the US Country Charts, is much slower than most of the songs featured on Urban’s sixth studio album with few exceptions. It is yet another of the love songs Urban is tending to be inclined towards since his fairytale wedding to Australian actress Nicole Kidman, and despite the fact that he didn’t actually write this song, still mimics Urban’s unique songwriting style.

Those who were banking on the release of the catchy, feel-good song “I’m In” as the third single from “Defying Gravity” may have to take a back seat until “Only You Can Love Me This Way” does the rounds on the charts. Alongside “If Ever I Could Love” and “Hit The Ground Runnin’”, “I’m In” has charted either through music downloads or unsolicited airplay. Perhaps it will be the fourth release, with its impressive beat and feel good lyrics that emanate the confusion of love and life.

Until then, “Only You Can Love Me This Way” will be hitting radios shortly. Don’t forget to pick up your copy of “Defying Gravity”, in stores and available for digital download now!
